When we are able to speak with open hearts and clear heads, we can provide a model for discourse among the members. Sermons are a vital part of the work of any minister, and they are especially important to Interim Ministers. The sermon offers the healing moment for congregations trying to find a new way of feeling about their church and each member’s own role in it. Sermons offer moments of individual reflection in a group, an experience that is so important for the evolution of community. Sermons are a demanding art, and we who prepare them must articulate the thoughts that will help the congregation achieve greater uplift, purpose, and unity.
